President of Oakwood-based company named poultry industry 'Workhorse of the Year'

The president of an Oakwood-based poultry firm has been named the U.S. Poultry and Egg Association's "Workhorse of the Year."

Elton Maddox, president and CEO of Wayne Farms, received the award during the International Poultry Expo, according to a press release.

The award is considered the poultry industry's "most esteemed honored" and is given "in recognition of dedicated service and valuable leadership given to the (U.S. Poultry and Egg) Association and poultry industry."

“We are honored to distinguish Elton with this special award and recognize his many contributions to the poultry industry and the association. We are deeply appreciative of his enthusiastic and tireless efforts on behalf of the industry,” said Sherman Miller, outgoing chairman for the association.

Maddox is a Georgia native, and holds a BS in engineering from the University of Georgia. He joined Wayne Farms in 1974.

He has also served as chairman of the National Chicken Council and the Georgia Improvement Association as well as president of the Georgia Poultry Federation and Georgia Poultry Processors Federation.
