North Hall High alum crowd-funds invention

By Alyson Shields

A North Hall High School alumnus will start crowd-funding an automatic wine chiller he and his business partners invented next week.

Phillip Lewis, class of 2006, is the product and mechanical designer for the Cryos Wine Chiller, which is designed to optimize wine temperature by cooling the wine to an exact temperature, by the bottle or by the glass.

"I have two other partners in this business and with our engineering background and their expertise in the wine community, we came up with the idea. We noticed... that wines were not drunk at the exact right temperature," said Lewis.

Lewis remains in Gainesville and he said his employer, Edge Innovative Resources, helped get the project going.

"We started this about four years ago and we're just now getting to the point where we're launching a Kickstarter campaign," said Lewis. "When we launch that campaign, it'll be available for pre-order."

The crowd-funding process allows customers to pre-order an item, allowing the developers to build up enough revenue to put the item into production.

The 45 day Kickstarter campaign goes live on Tuesday.
