Gainesville attorney Breakfield announces run for state court judgeship

A second candidate has announced plans to run for the state court judgeship that will be vacant at the end of the year.

Gainesville attorney John Breakfield released the news about his candidacy in a press statement Wednesday afternoon.

"Hall County deserves a judge who knows how to handle cases and act in a fair and judicious manner,” said Breakfield.

"As the owner of a local law firm, Solicitor for the City of Gainesville, a lawyer versed in both criminal and civil law, and as one of Governor Deal’s appointees to the Judicial Nominating Commission, I know that I would be ready on day one as your judge.”

Breakfield described himself as "a constitutional conservative."

“In our system of government, with three equal branches, I believe a judge’s role is limited,” said Breakfield.  “No judge should attempt to make law or legislate from the bench.”

Breakfield also teaches paralegal courses at the University of North Georgia.

Senior State Court Judge Charles Wynne announced last month that he would not seek re-election to the bench. Attorney Michelle Hall announced her intention to run for the judgeship shortly after Wynne's announcement.
