By AccessWDUN Staff

DEMOREST — The Piedmont College women's basketball team overcame a slow start in the first quarter to hand Huntingdon College a 73-63 loss on Sunday afternoon in Cave Arena moving to a perfect 5-0 in USA South play.

Huntingdon held an 11-6 edge with almost six minutes gone in the opening period, but Piedmont went on a 9-0 run to overtake the Hawks highlighted by a CARLY SALES old-fashioned three-point play. Sales scored five of the nine in the run as PC pulled out in front though the two would finish the quarter tied at 16.

Piedmont started fast in the 2nd scoring the first six points in the period on the way to holding a half-dozen lead at the halftime break. The catalyst for the jump in the 2nd was the play of Le'Shaunda Jones who scored six of her team-high 14 in the period.

The Jones show continued after the break with Le'Shaunda picking up two steal-and-scores in the quarter as Piedmont started to pull away leading by nine entering the 4th. Though Huntingdon would pull as close as five early in the quarter, a Mary Kate Rushton three-pointer put the Lady Lions back up by eight as Piedmont started to push the lead into double-digit territory icing the 10-point win with free throws down the stretch.
