The man who fled from Maysville police before bailing out of the stolen vehicle and sparking an hours-long manhunt in Banks County Dec. 27 has been captured in Gwinnett County.
Richard Michael Hammett now has been tied to numerous burglaries, entering autos and thefts in a half-dozen north Georgia counties, according to Sgt. Carissa McFaddin of Banks County Sheriff's Office.
Most recently, Hammett fled from authorities in Gwinnett County, where he allegedly stole a red 2005 Kia Spectra hatchback on Wednesday.
Additionally, on New Year's Eve, Hammett allegedly fled from Walton County Sheriff's Office deputies. He is tied to several entering auto cases there where guns were taken.
The Banks County investigation has led to the recovery of a large amount of stolen items reported taken in several burglaries and entering auto cases in Banks and Jackson counties, and from several burglaries in Franklin County.
Details of Hammett's capture will be forthcoming, McFaddin said.
