Clarkesville mayoral election set to coincide with Presidential Primary

CLARKESVILLE - Clarkesville residents will vote for mayor when they cast their ballots in the Presidential Preference Primary on March 1.

During its meeting Monday night, the Clarkesville City Council adopted a resolution laying out specifics of the special election that follows the recent death of Mayor Terry Greene.

Qualifying for the office of mayor will be held from Wednesday, Jan. 27, through Friday, Jan. 29, at the Habersham County Elections Office. Qualifying fee is $35.

The election will be held at the Ruby Fulbright Aquatic Center, where Clarkesville polling is held.

The top vote-getter in the special election will serve the remainder of Greene's unexpired term, through Dec. 31, 2017.

So far no one has announced intentions to run for the office.
