Piedmont women beat Covenant in OT

By AccessWDUN staff

CHATTANOOGA — The Lady Lion soccer team had their hands full on Wednesday evening facing Covenant College on the road, but Piedmont was able to survive in overtime with a 1-0 win courtesy of Cassidy Reich's game winner.

With Covenant getting the better of the play throughout much of the match keeping Piedmont on its heels, the Scots pushed late in the second half to finish off the performance with a goal. Covenant saw several chances just slip past the face of the goal and also had a header hit the crossbar before being cleared away with the home team getting chances to end it before overtime.

In overtime, Piedmont drew a penalty kick but could not convert the chance keeping it scoreless. However, the Lady Lions immediately recovered with MORGAN EDELMAN's play in the midfield setting the tone for Piedmont who refused to let the missed chance seal their fate.

It was a ball played by Edelman through to CASSIDY REICH that proved too much for the Scots as Reich tested the range of the Covenant keeper with a clipped ball to the back post. The Scots' Rachel Lemay got a hand to the effort, but could not keep it from hitting the net as Piedmont was able to dodge the Scots' attack late and steal a 1-0 OT win on the road.
