By AccessWDUN staff

HICKORY, N.C. — Despite getting a equalizer in the 89th minute to force overtime, the North Georgia men's soccer team could not capture a result on Wednesday afternoon against Lenoir-Rhyne, falling 2-1. The Nighthawks slip to 1-6-1 on the season following the loss.

After a competitive first half, the Bears (5-2-1) took control of the game for the majority of the second period, outshooting the Nighthawks, 12-4. Despite the lopsided attempts, North Georgia managed to find its only goal of the game in the 89th minute as Alex Grant finished a ball from Carl Ludwig Eriksson to force overtime.

L-R wasted no time in the extra period scoring just 24 seconds into overtime as Raffaele Di Puorto took advantage of a loose ball right in front of the net to give the Bears the golden goal victory.

NOTES
- Today's loss was the first overtime loss of the season for the UNG men. The Nighthawks came away with a draw in their only other overtime match of the season, 3-3, in the opener versus Barry. UNG scored late in that game as well to force the extra period.

- Alex Grant is now the third UNG player to have scored multiple goals this season. Eddie Hurst and Daniel Joyce now share the team lead with Grant in goals scored with two each.

- Carl Ludwig Eriksson now leads the team in assists with two on the year.

- Lenoir-Rhyne extends their all-time lead in the series to 4-2-1.

STAT OF THE GAME
23-11 - Today's match was just the second time this season that UNG had been outshot by its opponent by a mark of 10 shots or more.
