CLEVELAND - White County authorities report the capture of a Florida fugitive, wanted for the beating, strangling and attempted smothering of a victim.
Capt. Scotty Scarbrough of the White County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division said that about 11 a.m. Tuesday, deputies from WCSO arrested Christopher D. Higginbotham at 481 Mossy Acres Drive, Cleveland, without incident.
Higginbotham, 43, is wanted by Sarasota County, Fla., authorities for attempted murder and false imprisonment.
Scarbrough said facts that lead to Higginbotham’s charges are that he beat, strangled and attempted to smother the victim.
Higginbotham had eluded authorities since Aug. 30, when he ran from the scene following the alleged attack.
According to published reports in Florida, Higginbotham has a long criminal history and the U.S. Marshals Service offered a $2,500 reward for his capture.
