MARYVILLE, Tenn. - Chris Madden powered to the lead from the drop of the green flag, and went on to score the Southern All Star Dirt Racing Series victory at Smoky Mountain Speedway in Maryville, Tenn.
The Gray Court, S.C. native started the night by setting fast time in qualifying with a lap in 15.688 seconds. After taking the lead on the start, he would lead every lap en route to the $4,000 win.
Madden would have to work some lap traffic midway through the race and this allowed the second place car of Randy Weaver to close the gap on him and even pull alongside him. But Weaver faded late and nobody had anything for Madden in the end.
Weaver then had to battle with Billy Ogle, Jr. during the late stages of the race with Ogle, Jr. getting under Weaver to take over the second spot. When the checkered flag flew, it was Madden scoring the win, with Ogle, Jr. in second, Weaver in third, Mark Douglas in fourth and Riley Hickman in fifth.
David Payne, Derek Ellis, Bo Shirley, Tommy Kerr and Dylan Ames rounded out the top ten.
The next event for the Southern All Stars will Saturday, Sept. 26 and Sunday, Sept. 27, at East Alabama Motor Speedway in Phenix City, Ala., for the 27th annual Alabama State Championships, with a pair of 40 lap $4,000 to win events.
