KANSAS CITY — The Piedmont College women's soccer team has made its way into the NSCAA South Atlantic Regional Rankings for the first time in Head Coach Stephen Andrew's tenure with the Lady Lions coming in at 7th of the 10 schools ranked by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA).
The jump comes after Piedmont defeated Berry College on the Tuesday prior with the Vikings earning the 6th spot in last week's South Atlantic Regional Ranking. The Lady Lions also picked up conference wins over North Carolina Wesleyan College and Mary Baldwin College on the weekend as well to move to 7-0 overall and 2-0 in USA South play.
Piedmont is one of just 15 schools in more than 430 NCAA Division III schools with women's soccer to have not yet picked up a loss or a draw on the season. The Lady Lions are currently ranked 4th in goals against average as a team in NCAA Division III and also have the 16th ranked scoring offense as well.
Several individuals have made their way up in the statistical rankings of Division III as well with Cassidy Reich's eight assists placing her 1st in the nation in that category while senior keeper Michaela Gardner is ranked 4th in the country in goals against average.
At the top of the South Atlantic Regional Poll was Lynchburg College at 6-1, last year's undefeated national champion in NCAA Division III. The remainder of the poll was much the same as it was in week one with noted moves up by Emory University and Washington & Lee University who each moved up two spots.
Christopher Newport University slid from 5th to 8th as the only team to drop in the poll other than Berry College who fell out of the top 10 after the loss to Piedmont. The Lady Lions were the only team to move into the South Atlantic Regional Rankings this week.
Next up for PC is a road two-game swing up the East Coast to battle a pair of conference foes as the Lady Lions will play William Peace University on Friday afternoon before traveling to Averett University on Saturday. Both games on the weekend are set to kickoff at 2:00 pm.
