DHALONEGA — Lumpkin County scored 35 consecutive points to erase a quick deficit en route to a 40-14 victory over Our Lady of Mercy Friday night at The Burial Grounds.

The Bobcats' Victor Cross ran the opening kickoff back 75-yards to give them a 7-0 lead just 15 seconds into the contest. The Indians (2-2) did not let that slow them down.

Zacj Matthews engineered three touchdown drives in a six-minute span in the first quarter, capping the first two drives with touchdown runs of 32- and 38-yards for a 12-7 lead. Austin Pierce added a 1-yard scoring with 2:22 left in the quarter for a 19-7 lead.

In the second quarter Matthews capped a long 15-play, 70-yard drive in 8:05 with a 1-yard touchdown for a 26-7 halftime lead. The Indians got the ball to open the second half and Matthews needed just one play for an 80-yard touchdown run, his fourth of the game, for a 33-7 lead just 15 seconds into the third quarter.

The Bobcats (1-3) finally ended the Indians' scoring spurt with a 23-yard touchdown reception by Javon Henderson from Charlie Feldner to cut the lead to 33-14 with just over five minutes left in the game. Pierce finished the scoring with a 1-yard touchdown run.

Matthews finished with 258 yards on 24 carries to pace Lumpkin County. Cole White added 145 yards on 20 carries for the Indians.

Lumpkin County held OLM to just 7-yards of total offense in the first half. The Bobcats, however, finished with 236 for the game.
