GAINESVILLE — Bailey Fisher threw for three touchdowns and ran for another in leading Rabun County to a 42-0 whitewash of Riverside Military Academy in both teams' Region 8-AA openers Friday night at Maginnins Field.
The Wildcats (4-1, 1-0 Region 8-AA) piled up 295 total yards, including 232 yards passing from Fisher. Meanwhile, the defense stuffed the Eagles running game. Riverside Military (0-3, 0-1) finished with minus-36 yards rushing on 24 attempts and fumbled once.
Rabun County coach Lee Shaw said he was pleased with his team's effort.
"I was expecting a battle against a very, very athletic Riverside team," Shaw said. "They are a very dangerous team. But I thought our guys played really good. We put a lot of points on the board, got a lot of young guys in late in the game, and got the shutout. It was a huge win for us."
If there was a down side to the Wildcats performance in may have been in the running game. They managed just 63 yards on 22 carries for just a 2.9 yard average.
"It was a good game but it wasn't a great game. There's still a lot we've gotta clean up," Shaw said. "But this takes us into our off week where we want to be."
Fisher connected with Charlie Woerner on a 15-yard touchdown pass and then added a 9-yard scoring run in the first quarter for a 14-0 lead. Fisher sandwiched a pair of touchdown passes to Alden Wright (6 and 11 yards) around a Cal Drummond 1-yard touchdown run for a 35-0 lead after the third quarter. Adam Harrup capped the scoring with a 1-yard run in the fourth quarter.
Rabun County has a bye next week and plays host to Social Circle in two weeks in their region home-opener.
Riverside Military travels to Johnson next week in a non-region contest.
