ATHENS — The Commerce football team could not avoid a second straight defeat on Friday, falling 14-7 in a defensive battle with Athens Academy in Athens.
Caleb Brooks notched the Tigers (2-2, 1-1 Region 8-A) lone score on a seven-yard run in the third quarter. But the Spartans held Commerce out of the end zone the rest of the way, despite the Tigers recovering three Athens Academy fumbles.
Athens Academy pulled ahead for good on a 15-yard touchdown pass with 5:57 left to play.
Commerce rushed for 274 yards.
Athens Academy put up 298 total yards.
Commerce will look to bounce back next week against Athens Christian in Commerce.
