Mathis receives this year's Mike Banks Memorial Award

By Ken Stanford Contributing Editor

GAINESVILLE - Jim Mathis, Jr., is the recipient of this year's Mike Banks Memorial Award from the John Jarrard Foundation.

The Foundation's Bruce Burch says the award is given to someone in the community "who exemplified the same spirit of community service Mike blessed us with. Jim Mathis has certainly been one of the cornerstones of not only our organization but so many others. It is for this reason we awarded him the Mike Banks Memorial Award."  Mathis is the retiring President of the North Georgia Community Foundation.

Banks, who died in early 2014, was one of the founders of the John Jarrard Songwriter Concert as well as a noted community leader.

The award was presented Saturday night at this year's concert, which was held on the front lawn of Brenau University.
