GCPS promises more patrol after social media threat against NGHS

SUWANEE—More officers will be on hand Friday at North Gwinnett High School following a threat made on social media.

Gwinnett County Schools spokesman Bernard Watson said in an email that school officials "are aware of the social media talk about threats at (NGHS) and we have looked into them and have not been able to find any proof that the threats are real."

A similar threat was made this month against Shiloh Middle School in Snellville.

"We take all threats seriously and investigate them thoroughly to make sure all our students are safe," said Watson.

The school system sent a letter to parents letting them know what was happening. The threat was not outlined specifically, but apparently warned students to stay home Friday.

"We believe similar rumors at other schools and the fact that (Friday) is September 11 may be contributing factors," said the letter.

The Suwanee school says it is "always vigilant" when it comes to investigating rumors.
