GILLSVILLE — The Georgia State Patrol has identified the victim of a two-vehicle crash on Bryant Quarter Road in east Hall County Wednesday morning.

Investigating troopers said 16-year-old Brittany Miller of Alto was traveling south on the roadway attempting to negotiate a curve near Emory Griffin Road when she lost control of her vehicle on the wet pavement. The car slid into the northbound lane and was hit by a pickup truck.

Troopers said Miller, a junior at East Hall High School, died at the crash scene.

The driver of the truck, 66-year-old Patricia Garrett of Gillsville, was transported to St. Mary's Hospital in Athens for evaluation. A child in the truck also was taken to the hospital. Troopers said neither suffered serious injuries.

Officials with the Hall County School System said word of Miller's death began to spread on social media, so students at East Hall realized shortly after the crash that one of their classmates had died.

"Students who wanted to express their grief over the passing of their friend have been encouraged by the school administration to come to the counseling center. The Hall County School District Student Services Department has provided additional counselors and social workers to support these efforts," school system Director of Community Relations Gordon Higgins said.

He said Miller's family will provide information about services in the near future.

The fatal crash occurred at 7:44 a.m., according to the Georgia State Patrol.
