TOCCOA — Stephens County pitcher Emma Whitfield tossed a one-hit, 11-strikeout masterpiece to lead the Lady Indians to a 2-0 win over Class AAAA No. 1 Buford Tuesday night in Region 8-AAAA action.
Buford (12-3, 2-1 Region 8-AAAA) committed four errors en route to its first region loss since 2012. Buford's only hit was a third inning single by Mariah Wicker.
Senior pitcher Kennedy Kotula took the tough loss for Buford going the distance yielding five hits with two unearned runs while striking out six.
The Lady Wolves next will travel to Cambridge on Wednesday in a battle of two top-ranked teams. Cambridge is ranked No. 1 in Class AAAAA.
