Panthers defense carries them to win over White County

CLEVELAND — Jackson County held White County to just 50 yards of total offense in taking a 17-0 win over the Warriors on the road Friday night.

It was the first win for the Panthers (2-0) over White County (0-2) since 1993. It also is the first 2-0 start for Jackson County since 2010.

Malik Tuck led the Panthers attack with 97 yards rushing, including a 3-yard touchdown run early in the second quarter for a 7-0 lead. Jackson County got a 26-yard field goal from Easton Tuggle as time expired to the first half with a 10-0 lead.

It was Tuggle’s fourth field of the season already.

Caleb Matthews capped the scoring in the third quarter with a 21-yard touchdown pass to Chase Wester to push it to a 17-0 lead.

Matthews was 5-of-8 passing for 74 yards. All five completion were to Wester, who finished withb 74 yards receiving.

The lone bright spots for White County were cornerback Ky Crowe, who had two interceptions. Punter bradley Hurst also had a solid game averaging more than 43 yards a boot on seven punts.
