DACULA — Mill Creek pulled away from its rivalry showdown with Dacula for a 34-7 win on Friday in Dacula.
The Hawks (3-0) jumped in front 10-7 just before halftime and then surged ahead in the second half.
Daniel Leconte scored two touchdowns, despite managing just 32 yards rushing, while Joe Thomas also added 32 yards rushing and a touchdown. Quarterback Cameron Turley paced the Mill Creek offense with 286 yards passing and a touchdown -- to Edmond Graham.
Miles Riley caught five passes for 56 yards, and Braxton Richburg pulled in 5 catches for 50 yards.
Mill Creek placekicker Brenton King also enjoyed a stellar night, tying a school record with a 50-yard field goal -- the go-ahead score -- as well as a 23-yard field goal at the start of the fourth quarter.
Sidney Otiwu and Jamar Hall also picked off passes, each setting up touchdowns for the Hawks.
The Hawks will take a bye next week, before beginning Region 7-AAAAAA play on Sept. 18 against Duluth.
