GAINESVILLE - Qualifying begins Monday for city elections across the state, with most of the attention in Hall County centered on the Gainesville election.
Two longtime Gainesville City Council members have announced plans to step down at the end of the year - Myrtle Figueras and Bob Hamrick, and there are already "announced" candidates for both posts. The post held by Ruth Bruner will also be on the ballot as will three seats on the city school board.
In each of the other municipalities in the county, at least one council seat will be up for grabs this year. The elections are scheduled Nov. 3.
The Hall County Elections Office will handle voter registration for all the cities and towns in the county. The deadline to register is Oct. 5.
