DAHLONEGA - A Ride and Drive Event, to be held Sept. 2 on the University of North Georgia's (UNG) Dahlonega Campus, will feature presenters from several electric car makers and include test drives.
"We wish to share with our students and the UNG community the importance and exceptional benefits of owning and driving electric vehicles. This is one more positive step towards sustainability for our university," said Glenn Jones, director of auxiliary enterprises at UNG.
The event will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the visitor's parking lot next to the Student Recreation Center and parking deck, where there is also an electric vehicle charging station. In June, at its Dahlonega and Gainesville campuses, the university installed level-two dual electric vehicle charging stations that will charge any level-two and most level-three electric vehicles. The stations, which require a small fee for use, accept credit and debit cards only, no cash. The rates are as follows:
• $1.00 for the first hour
• $1.00 for the second hour
• $1.50 for the third hour
• $1.50 for the fourth hour
• $25/hour for every hour thereafter
Professionals from Nissan, BMW and Tesla Motors will be on site and available to speak about the environmental and cost benefits of electric vehicles; Tesla will be offering test drives. Aaron Luque, president of Envirospark, the manufacturer of UNG's charging stations, will be in attendance to showcase the charger, explain how it works and answer any questions.
UNG Parking Services also will be on hand to share important updates regarding ongoing projects such as the Library Technology Center parking lot expansion and shuttle service.
