LAWRENCEVILLE - A Hall County native has launched a campaign for a seat on the state Public Service Commission.
Kellie Austin, a Gwinnett County businesswoman, kicked off her campaign at a rally in downtown Lawrenceville Wednesday night.
Austin, who grew up in Toccoa, says she plans to seek the District 2 seat on the PSC, which is now held by Republican Tim Echols and includes Gwinnett, Barrow, Jackson, and Athens-Clarke counties and stretches southward into middle Georgia.
“ I believe the people of this state want to see honor and virtue placed above political expediency, to see government once again become the protector of our liberties and our entrepreneurial spirit," Austin declared in announcing her candidacy. She also went on to say, “ I will do everything that I can to get us back to solid, common sense, economically viable energy solutions which will ensure jobs for Georgians and secure our local energy production. The cost of energy production is going down. I will not stand back and allow your cost to go up. I do not have a personal energy agenda. I have no industry prejudice. My only bias is for the people of Georgia.”
The election will be held next year.
