GAINESVILLE - The Hall County Library System has run into a roadblock in its plan to issue passports as a way of picking up some extra cash.
Library Director Lisa MacKinney confirmed Wednesday that it will likely be next year, at the earliest, before the program can be been implemented. Library officials had hoped to have it up and running by this fall.
MacKinney says she's not sure what the holdup is. "...we don’t know at this moment the exact reason we are not getting the green light. We are trying to find out more information as to the reasoning but we don’t know anything concrete."
The Hall County Clerk of Courts office stopped issuing passports last year.
The only place in the county now issuing passports is the Post Office on Limestone Parkway, according to the U.S. Postal Service.
