GAINESVILLE - A 43-year-old man has been given a life sentence after pleading guilty to a 2013 murder that occurred at a soccer match in the East Hall area.
Court records show that Saul Castillo-Velasquez entered his guilty pleas Monday before Hall County Superior Court Judge Kathlene Gosselin.
He had been charged with the shooting death of 46-year-old Silverio Acosta of Gainesville June 16th 2013 during an adult league soccer match at Tadmore Park. Authorities said at the time that the two men had apparently had known each other when they lived in El Salvador a number of years ago.
Castillo-Velasquez pleaded guilty to murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime. He was sentenced to life without parole.
