DULUTH — Buford split the final two games Saturday in the 'rumble in the ridge'softball tournament at Peachtree Ridge High School.
Buford opened Saturday's play with a 10-6 win over Evans but fell to North Gwinnett 4-3 in the final game of the tournament. The Lady Wolves finished the tournament with a 3-1 record.
Against Evans, junior Samantha Thomas hit a pair of two-run home runs. Buford exploded for six runs in the second inning and then held on late for the win. For Thomas, it was her third and fourth home runs in the last three games.
Senior Peyton Wolfe (2-0), got the win going five innings striking out two and walking two while yielding three earned runs.
Against North Gwinnett, sophomore Logan Caymol (0-1) took the loss but pitched well going 5 2/3 innings with five strikeouts, three walks, and allowed three earned runs.
North Gwinnett took a quick 1-0 lead in the first inning but the Lady Wolves rallied to take a 3-1 lead in the fourth scoring two runs without the benefit of a hit
After pounding out 13 hits against Evans, Buford bats could muster just four against North Gwinnett pitchers..
The Lady Bulldogs stole the win plating three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. The game was then called due to tournament time limits.
