LCKC paddlers prepare for World Championships

MILAN, Italy — Local Paddlers from the Lanier Canoe Kayak Club are preparing for the ICF Flatwater Sprint World Championships to be held next week (August 20-23).

The Milan even will be the first qualification event for the 2016 Olympics in Rio, with the second and final chance to qualify next May at the PanAmerican Qualifer to be held at the Lake Lanier Olympic Venue in Gainesville.

Athletes from LCKC, representing Team USA, are 2012 Olympian Tim Hornsby, along with teammates Chris Miller, Stanton Collins, Alex McLain, Ben Hefner, Ian Ross and Gavin Ross.

LCKC High Performance coach Claudiu Ciur is the USA National Team coach for this event. 

“We have a very strong group of young athletes. They have trained hard the past year and we are expecting some impressive results from these athlet,” Ciur said.
