ATLANTA — Georgia officials say Planned Parenthood Southeast and other facilities in Georgia are following state law requiring the burial or cremation of fetal remains after an abortion.
Georgia Department of Public Health Commissioner Brenda Fitzgerald said in a statement Wednesday that the agency has completed its review of the five licensed abortion providers in Georgia and found none are breaking state law by donating fetal tissue. She says the state requires that fetal remains be buried or cremated.
Gov. Nathan Deal ordered the review last month following an anti-abortion group's release of a video showing a Planned Parenthood official discussing the disposal of body parts from aborted fetuses.
Planned Parenthood has said it only helps women legally donate fetal tissue to research firms, not sell it commercially.
