Last week, Joey Logano ran out of fuel while leading the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Pocono.
This week, the shoe was on the other foot, as Kevin Harvick's gas tank ran dry on the final lap in Sunday's race on the road course at Watkins Glen with two turns to go, handing the lead and the win to Logano.
It marked Logano's second win of the season, and his first series win on a road course. And with Logano's win on Saturday in the NASCAR Xfinity Series, it gave him his first weekend sweep.
Kyle Busch finished in second, with Kevin Harvick in third, Matt Kenseth in fourth and Kurt Busch in fifth.
Afterwards, Logano spoke with members of the media about the win and the weekend sweep, along with his crew chief, Todd Gordon, as well as second place finisher Kyle Busch.
On Saturday, Logano came back from a pit road penalty that sent him to the back of the field to retake the lead on lap 49, and went on to score the win in the NASCAR Xfinity Series at Watkins Glen.
Logano was the class of the field, leading from the pole until teammate Brad Keselowski took the lead on lap five. Keselowski seemed to be the only driver able to keep up with Logano, but in the end, had to settle for second.
Afterwards, we heard from Logano and Keselowski, along with third place finisher Chris Buescher.
Sadly, on Monday morning, the racing world had to say farewell to a legend. Buddy Baker, NASCAR veteran and broadcaster, passed away after a short battle with lung cancer. Baker scored 19 wins at a driver during the course of a 33 year career, including wins in the 1980 Daytona 500, the 1979 Southern 500 at Darlington, and three wins in the World 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Baker was also the first driver in history to break the 200 mph mark on a close course, doing so at Talladega in 1970.
After retiring as a driver, Baker became a noted broadcaster, working in television for CBS and TNN, and as a radio commentator on the SiriusXM NASCAR channel. Buddy Baker was 74 years old.
Along with our video coverage from Sunday’s race, we also take a moment to remember Baker and his career.
Up next for the NASCAR Sprint Cup is a trip to the Irish Hills of Michigan, as they will do battle this weekend at Michigan International Speedway. Meanwhile, the NASCAR Xfinity Series makes another road course ship, as the series heads for the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Circuit in Lexington, Ohio. WDUN will have live coverage of the entire race weekend.
