COVINGTON — The East Hall girls volleyball team opened its 2015 season in a six-team match Saturday at Eastside High School. The Lady Vikings finished 3-2 beating Newton County 25-7, 25-14, Heritage Conyers 25-17, 25-6 and Alcovy 25-9, 25-9. They fell to to Jefferson 22-25, 25-15-25, 15-12 and lost to 25-15, 25-7 to Decatur.
For East Hall, Jessica Chmiel had five aces and six digs, Minette Maldonado had 27 points on serve with 10 aces, 25 kills, and 25 digs. Lorna Ayon had 17 digs, Summer Lindsey had 10 assists and 30 digs, and Savannah Thellman had 35 assists and nine digs for the Lady Vikings.
Niyah Rucker had 18 kills, Cassida Shocl;ey had 37 points on serve with 13 aces, and 16 kills, Holly Poole had 27 points on serve with seven aces, five kills and five digs.
East Hall next will take on Johnson, Rabun County, and Flowery Branch on Tuesday.
