Gainesville: RISE program graduation today

By AccessWDUN staff

GAINESVILLE – The RISE summer learning program is graduating close to 100 first- through sixth-grade students during a ceremony today at the Brenau Downtown Center.

Every year participants dress in caps and gowns to receive diplomas from an organization devoted to eliminating summer learning loss.

RISE (Real, Interactive Summer-Learning Experience), a six-week-long collaborative enrichment program for low-income school children, has a mission of limiting or eliminating summer learning loss in reading and math. It also promotes healthy life choices and nutrition during the summer when students lack access to the school lunch programs.

The program has grown significantly each year from its creation in 2012 with 19 students.

RISE is a partnership between Brenau University, Gainesville City Schools, the Hall Country Health Department, Georgia Mountain Food Back, Algernon Sydney Sullivan Foundation, Interactive Neighborhood of Kids (INK), Elachee Nature Science Center and the Quinlan Visual Arts Center.
