Trio of former Red Elephants sit atop City Championship after 1st round

GAINESVILLE — Former Gainesville High standouts dominated the opening round of the Gainesville City Championship Friday at Chattahoochee Golf Course.

Jackson Bishop holds a four shot lead after firing a 4-under par 68. Lawson King and Nathan Williams both shot even par 72 and are tied for second. All three recently played for the Red Elephants.

The Championship Flight is a 54-hole event played over three days (Friday-Sunday). All other flights are 36 holes on Saturday and Sunday.

Bishop plays for Western Carolina where King will be joining him in as a team mate in the fall. Williams will be playing for Georgia State.

Several former City Champions are within striking distance. Will Peeples sits fourth after carding a 73, Morgan Nix and Sam Hulsey each finished with a 76.

Ricky Brown is in fifth with a 74, Brad Prestridge and Murry Lokasundaram are tied for sixth at 75, Hulsey and Nix (76) are tied for eighth and Jim Foote fired a 77 to round out the top 10 after the first round.

Round 2 is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. on Saturday.
