Route, fare changes coming to Gainesville Connection Wed.

GAINESVILLE — Some changes in fares and routes are coming Wednesday to Gainesville's fixed-route bus system but the alterations are nothing major.

"The changes are not major in any way," said Phillippa Lewis Moss, who is in charge of the operation of the Gainesville Connection, "but are designed to simplify routes by increasing the connectivity from one bus route to the next, and decreasing customer wait time by having buses leave the transit station at 15 minutes and 45 minutes past the hour."   This, Moss added, will bring the bus system more in line with national transit standards.

Meanwhile, Moss says there was a "great turnout" for the system's Dump the Pump/Customer Appreciation Day earlier this month.

"A couple of hundred passengers visited the Gainesville Connection Administrative Building...and received copies of the new bus schedules and asked questions of staff so they would be prepared for the route updates."

Dump the Pump Day was a nationwide initiative designed to draw attention to public transportation and its role as an alternative to the private vehicles used in daily commutes around the country.
