ATLANTA - Beginning Monday, the state Department of Education will open 14 Learning Resources Evaluation Sites around Georgia, including one in Cornelia.
This will give educators and parents alike a chance to review textbooks and other learning resources for instruction in K-12 Foreign/Modern Languages & Latin and K-12 English as a Second Language (ESOL). The Learning Resources Evaluation Sites - including one at Cornelia Elementary School - will be open for approximately three weeks. The sites will allow the public, including parents and educators, to review and evaluate learning resources that may be used in the classroom over the coming years.
They will be open Monday-Thursday, generally during the school business hours. All sites are closed on Fridays and holidays. This year, the state is compiling a list of learning resources and instructional materials for Grades K-12 Foreign/Modern Languages & Latin and ESOL courses.
After the summer review, the Learning Resources Advisory Committee will meet in late July to compile a recommended list of learning resources for approval by the State Board of Education. Each local school system will determine which learning resources best meet the system’s particular instructional needs.
