Piedmont College gets new four-year cardiovascular technology degree, first in state

ATHENS, Ga. (AP) Piedmont College will offer a four-year degree in cardiovascular technology this fall, the first program of its kind in Georgia.

The Athens Banner-Herald reported Tuesday the program will be offered at Piedmont's campuses in Athens and Demorest.

Linda Scott, dean of Piedmont's R.H. Daniel School of Nursing & Health Sciences, said the Piedmont program is the first in the state to offer a four-year bachelor of science degree in cardiovascular technology.

The curriculum covers studies in the sciences, including chemistry, biology, physics, and calculus, as well as anatomy and physiology.

In their fourth year, students will study at the Cardiovascular Technology Institute in Gainesville. After earning a B.S. degree, graduates are eligible to take the National Registry Examination in Cardiovascular Technology, a requirement to become a registered cardiovascular technologist.
