GAINESVILLE — A man wanted for impersonating a police office last month remains at large and Gainesville Police now have a composite sketch of him.
The incident happened May 23 about 11:30 p.m.at an apartment complex on McEver Road.
Police spokesman Kevin Holbrook says the man approached a woman and displayed a gold badge, claiming to be a federal agent, and then requested to "pat her down. During the pat down the male subject began to touch the female inappropriately at which point the female escaped the area."
The suspect is a white male, 6’0” or taller, with a skinny build, brown hair and brown eyes. Holbrook added that at the time of the incident he was wearing a plain grey t-shirt, black athletic shorts, a black or blue ball cap, and grey and black Nike shoes. "A newer model black car was seen fleeing the area shortly after the incident. It may or may not be directly related to the case."
"If you are approached by an individual that claims to be a police officer, ensure your safety first and foremost," said Holbrook. "Feel free to ask for proper identification, as we all are required to carry that identification on us at all times... and if you do feel that there is a case where an individual is possibly impersonating an officer, please notify 911 and they can tell you whether the individual you are with is a law enforcement officer or not, becasue we do report any and all interactions we have with the public to our dispatch."
Anyone with information about the suspect is asked to contact the Gainesville Police Department at 770-534-5254.
