OAKWOOD — This year's annual Starlight Concert & Fireworks will be held Friday on the University of North Georgia's (UNG) Gainesville campus in Oakwood.
Held at the G.W. Bailey Amphitheater, the Starlight Concert is produced by the UNG Alumni Association. Proceeds benefit UNG scholarships.
"This is an event the entire community looks forward to. People spread out across several acres, kids run around and play, families gather together and you can feel the excitement in the air," said Chris Stenander, president of the UNG Alumni Association. "We have an outstanding band scheduled and our fireworks company works hard to provide a dazzling display that rivals any in north Georgia. Come early, bring a picnic dinner, blanket, chairs and toys for the kids. This will be an event that you will not want to miss."
The entry fee is $10 per car or $20 per large van or bus. Food will be available for purchase as well. In case of rain, the event will be moved to June 12.
Gates will open for cars to enter the campus at 4:30 p.m., and will remain open until 8:30 p.m. The concert's music will be performed from 6:00 p.m. until dusk, and will be provided by Terry Lee and the GTs. A fireworks display will kick off after the music at around 9:00 p.m.
Alcohol, walk-ins, pets, sparklers, political signage, advertisements (without sponsorship), open flames, and grills are not allowed. All UNG campuses are tobacco-free. Outside food and drinks are welcome, and Jack's Applewood Smoked BBQ will be on-site to sell food, drinks and more.
Special parking is available for those who have state-issued handicapped parking permits. Guests without permits will need to park in regular event parking and walk to the event site. Seating is not provided.
In case of inclement weather or other changes, updates will be posted on the event's webpage at http://ungalumni.org/starlight, the UNG alumni Facebook page, and in a voicemail message at 678-717-3409.
