GAINESVILLE - For the first time in two decades, anyone who is eligible for Meals on Wheels in the Gainesville-Hall County area will be able to get those meals.
Director Phillippa Lewis-Moss said Wednesday that Hall County has been declared a "no waiting list" county.
"What this means to staff, is that we can begin the process of serving elderly clients as soon as they declared eligible recipients," said Lewis-Moss.
Lewis-Moss said this is a major change since the recession hit in 2008, and later, budget cuts that left the program struggling.
"There was one point where we had over 150 eligible adults who went without a noontime meal because we just did not have the financial or volunteer resources," Lewis-Moss said.
Those interested in volunteering, or who need information on who is eligible, can find out more on the Meals on Wheels page of the city's website.
