Two people arrested for identity theft in Oakwood

OAKWOOD - Oakwood Police arrested two people Tuesday for identity fraud and theft after a three-week-long investigation.

According to Investigator Todd Templeton, officers responded to a suspicious persons call at the Oakwood Walmart early in the morning of May 1. The vehicle the suspicious persons were in left, but an officer was able to locate it shortly after.

Templeton said the officer pulled the vehicle over, noting it had no license plate. The driver, 29 year old Candi Sneed, and 24 year old Kyle Weischedel were in the vehicle, and Sneed consented to a search.

"When the officer searched the vehicle...they ultimately ended up locating 23 different items that consisted of a driver's license, checks, checkbooks, credit cards and things of that nature that all had different people's names on them," Templeton said.

Templeton added that Sneed and Weischedel did not give officers a reasonable explanation as to why they had the documents. Sneed was cited for a traffic violation and released.

Later, investigators were able to confirm with victims that the documents in Sneed's vehicle were stolen during burglaries in Gainesville, Cumming, Ball Ground and Tate.

When officers attempted to serve arrest warrants at a home on Mountain View Road, they were unable to locate the suspects, but did find an item that potentially implicated the pair in another crime.

"Two deputies went out to the address...in an attempt to arrest the individuals and found out that they were not home," Templeton explained. "However, there was a trailer at the address that was found to be stolen out of Dawson County."

Templeton said he believed that at last report Dawson County authorities were looking to pursue charges against the pair in relation to that stolen trailer.

Forsyth County deputies later recieved a tip that the suspects were at a residence in Forsyth County, where they were arrested and later transferred to Hall County deputies.

Sneed and Weischedel have each been charged with twenty three counts of identity theft, one count for each item that had identification of another person.
