JAMAICA, Va. - Daniel Baggerly led most of the way, then held off a hard charge from defending winner Walker Arthur to win the USA 100 for the FASTRAK Racing Series at Virginia Motor Speedway in Jamaica, Va. Saturday night.
Baggerly, of Richmond, Va., and Davis Lipscombe led the field to green, with Baggerly jumping out the lead. Once out front Baggerly began to pull away from the field leaving Lipscombe to deal with Arthur for second.
Arthur got by Lipscombe on lap 19 and set out to catch Baggerly, who had stretched his lead to about ten car lengths. On lap 22 Baggerly began working lapped traffic with Arthur closing quickly. With Arthur now on his bumper, Baggerly split two lapped cars to get away by a couple of car lengths. On lap 25 Baggerly made a slight mistake in turn 1 allowing Arthur to get inside for the lead. On lap 28 Baggerly closed in on Arthur then dove under him heading into turn 4 to take back the top spot.
Once out front, Baggerly turned up the wick, never looked back and went on to collect his first career FASTRAK National Tour event and the $3,000 top prize. Arthur finished in second, with Lipscombe in third, Tyler Bare in fourth and Ray Cook in fifth.
The caution would slow the action three times in the event, with Scott Tessman and Matthew Nance causing the yellows for stalled machines on track. Brad Rigdon caused the final caution after cutting down a tire and sustaining damage.
The FASTRAK National Tour Pro Late Models returns to action on Friday, May 22 at Beckley Motor Speedway in Mount Hope, WV. For more info, visit FASTRAKRacing.com.
