Health officials: Forsyth Co. student did not have measles

By B.J. Williams
ATLANTA - The child in Forsyth County that prompted concern among parents at one elementary school did not have measles after all.

The Georgia Department of Public Health issued a statement Tuesday, saying that tests by the Georgia Public Health Lab and the CDC were negative for measles. A spokeswoman for the health department said by law they cannot indicate the diagnosis for the child .

Parents at Sharon Elementary School received a letter last week, indicating the child had tested positive for measles. The second and third tests came back with negative results, however. Parents have been notified of the most recent test results, according to Forsyth County School System spokeswoman Jennifer Caracciolo.

Atlanta television stations have reported the child is a third grader at the school.
