Hall County Fire Services unveils new badge

GAINESVILLE - For the first time since the department's inception on December 14, 1970, Hall County Fire Services (HCFS) has redesigned the department's badge.

According to a press statement from HCFS, the new badge was designed with a great deal of meaning in its shape, finish and attachments.  The shield itself symbolizes HCFS' commitment to protect from harm those firefighters are sworn to protect. The gold finish represents a precious metal that can be soft and flexible, yet firm and strong when necessary. The depicted eagle is associated with a creature that strives in any condition, can survive the fiercest storm and also symbolizes the United States of America.

In the center of the badge is the Great Seal of the State of Georgia. The front of the seal is centered around the coat of arms of the state: an arch with three columns, the arch symbolizing the state's Constitution and the columns representing the three branches of government (legislative, executive, and judicial). The words of the official state motto, "Wisdom, Justice, Moderation" are inscribed on scrolls that are wrapped around the columns. An American Revolutionary War soldier stands between the second and third columns, holding a drawn sword in his right hand, representing the military's defense of the Constitution. A border surrounds the coat of arms and the motto "State of Georgia."  Finally, the American flag adorns both sides of the shield.  The nation’s colors have significance, as well: white signifies purity and innocence, red represents valor and bravery and blue indicates vigilance, perseverance and justice.

“When firefighters wear the new badge of the Hall County Fire Services, they should remember our code of ethics: Honor…to serve our community, Courage…in the face of all adversity, Commitment…at any cost and Integrity…to maintain trust," said Hall County Fire Chief Jeff Hood.
