COLUMBUS -- The top-seeded North Georgia baseball team came up on the short end of a 9-3 decision to eighth-seeded Georgia College in quarterfinal action of the 2015 Peach Belt Conference Tournament on Saturday afternoon at Golden Park in Columbus. The loss drops the 12th-ranked Nighthawks to 35-15 on the season.

The Nighthawks were facing an uphill battle after a third inning that saw the Bobcats plate five runs on four hits and a pair of North Georgia fielding miscues.

An inning later, the Nighthawks battled back to cut the deficit to 5-3 courtesy of a pair of RBI singles by Devin Gearhart and Joey Cecere followed by an RBI fielder's choice by Connor Hoover.

After four scoreless frames from each team, Georgia College added the final insurance runs by plating four in the top of the ninth fueled by a pair of RBI doubles.

Brandon Agar (4-4) took the loss for North Georgia despite allowing just one earned run in four innings of work. GC's Cameron Busby (3-4) earned the victory with four and two-thirds innings of scoreless relief work.

Offensively, Cecere was a tough out as the senior batted 4-for-5 from the plate with an RBI.

North Georgia, ranked second in the latest Southeast region poll, will now await its postseason fate, which will be announced at 10:00 p.m. tomorrow (Sunday) during the NCAA's online tournament field selection show.
