Flowery Branch considers turn lanes at McEver Rd intersection

FLOWERY BRANCH—The Flowery Branch City Council is considering an intergovernmental agreement with Hall County that would bring turn lanes to the intersection of McEver Road and Jim Crow Road/Gainesville Street.

Bill Andrew, City Manager, said the city would be responsible for $40,000 for the traffic light structures, money he said has been in the budget since the plan was first considered back in September 2011.

"(Back then) the county was unable to budget their funding, so the intergovernmental agreement collapsed after two years," said Andrew.

The contract is a one-year deal, meaning the city has one year from its adoption and acceptance to complete the project.

Andrew said at this point, they just needed to tell the county which way they were leaning on the project, so now the county has a chance to build it into their budget for the next fiscal year.

Also included in the agreement is paving of 931 feet along Gainesville Street, and turn lanes will be installed in every direction at the intersection.

"I think this agreement has gotten better and better (over time)," said Andrew.

Hall County Commissioners will likely consider the matter at their work session Monday, May 11 at 10:00 a.m.

OTHER NOTES:

-Council approved an ordinance pertaining to city water and sewer bills, making their due date the 20th of each month to eliminate any confusion on due dates.

-Mayor Mike Miller again reminded citizens of the Mayor's Breakfast, which will be held Monday, May 11 at 8:00 a.m. at the Flowery Branch Train Depot in downtown. It is open to the public.
