Page powers to Senoia Super Late Model victory lane

By Track PR

SENOIA, Ga. - Michael Page of Winston, Ga. held off all challenges Saturday night at Senoia Raceway, as he claimed the $3000 prize winning the Spring Fling 40 for the Super Late Models at the Senoia, Ga. speedway.

Ethan Hunter qualified fastest for the Super Late Models knocking Clint Smith off the pole for only the second time this season. However, Smith gained the advantage from the outside on the drop of the green as Hunter slid back to second. Kenny Collins came up to race with Hunter while Tyler Millwood and Cale Simons battled side by side.

Simons dropped back a car length at lap six and found himself in a battle with Brian Reese for the fifth position. The duo raced side by side for two laps before Simons inched in front through turn three. He bobbled exiting the fourth turn. The bobble sent Simons up across the track where Reese clipped him slightly resulting in Simons hitting and then climbing the front stretch wall and then rolling onto his roof just past the flag stand.

On lap 11, Clint Smith was leading but slowed with problems and Kenny Collins took over the lead position. Tyler Millwood closed the gap and began to pressure Collins with Michael Page and Joe Armistead, Jr. racing hard for third.

Millwood overtook Collins on lap 27, but could not pull away as the two caught up to lapped traffic. That slowdown also allowed Page and Armistead to close the gap as those two swapped their position back and forth.

Millwood would begin to pull away, but could not get around Maddie Crane as she raced to stay on the lead lap. Millwood looked to go around her with only a few laps remaining, but Crane slid up the track connecting just enough to send her car up into the third turn wall and Millwood’s down across the dirt berm at the bottom of the track. The unfortunate accident ended Millwood’s quest for the big payday and put Collins back into the lead spot.

Michael Page would come up and take over the lead from Collins a few laps later with Ethan Hunter chasing him through the hole created. Armistead also followed suit as Collins faded to fourth.

The final caution of the 40-lap race happened when Shane Fulcher slammed the outside wall down the back stretch and then stopped on the track entering turn three. Brian Reese could not slow his mount down before hitting Fulcher’s disabled ride. Both of the cars were heavily damaged in the accident.

Page kept everyone behind him on the final restart claiming the $3000 pay day. Ethan Hunter came back to finish second ahead of Armistead in third, Collins in fourth and Tony Kemp in fifth.

In other action, Austin Horton has been one of the fastest in the Limited Late Model competition all year. He proved it again on Saturday night by turning the fastest lap in qualifying. But a five car invert put him in the third row for the feature.

On the start, Dusty Jones wobbled, creating an opening for Thomas Lewis to go three wide, with Russ Ogletree on the outside and Horton on the inside. The three charged to the third turn, but Horton lost the grip and spun, collecting Ogletree and ending the night for both drivers.

Jones used the early caution to regain his composure and lead the restart, but Lewis was close behind applying the pressure. After a caution, Smith moved up to challenge Jones for the lead, but Jones held on to the top spot.

A late caution proved to be the only thing that could stop Jones as he had a tire go down while under caution. Smith inherited that lead and went on to score the win. Joey Armistead finished second, with Clifton Moran third, Thomas Lewis fourth and Glenn Morris in fifth.

Dylan Knowles set the pace early in the Crate Late Model feature and showed he was going to be the man to beat as he scored the win. Mark Page finished in second, with Matt Black third, Nick Phillips in fourth and Tyler Hill in fifth.

Winford Minix built up a large lead in the Bomber feature, and never looked back as he posted his second win of the season. Josh Roddy, Derrick Matthews, Alex Rudolph and Jim Jackson rounded out the top five.

In the Hobby Stock feature, Dustin Smith topped Jonathan Archer for the win. Kerry Carden finished in third, with Joe Hillman in fourth and Ben Herren in fifth.

James Stansel led the entire Mini Stock feature, but was disqualified in the post-race inspection for illegal pedals. The disqualification moved Brandon Bright to the win, with Gary Parker in second, Billy Allison in third, Dickey Caldwell in fourth and Cassie Dingler-Still in fifth.

The results of the B Cadet feature are pending due to apparent winner Craig Scott being protested by second place finisher Blant Duke. Scott’s power plant will be sent to the track’s official engine shop for further inspection.

Racing at Senoia Raceway continues this Saturday, May 9, featuring racing in the Super Late Models, Limited Late Models, Crate Late Models, B Cadets, Hobby Stocks, Mini Stocks, Bomber and Legends Car divisions.
