CLEVELAND - White County Public Works Department reports that Gene Nix Road is now open to through traffic at the bridge following the installation of new guardrails at the bridge.
Rolann Smith, spokeswoman for county public works, said the crew contracted to install the guardrails stayed late Monday to complete the project.
The placement of guardrails at that bridge was prompted following the deaths of two White County teens on March 15.
The call for the guardrails gained national attention after Shannon Hamilton, the father of one of the teens, was arrested while attempting to place a makeshift barrier where the teens' car ran off the road into Town Creek.
Smith said county crews still have to put up bridge signs and do other finishing touches, but that will not impede traffic flow.
