GAINESVILLE - Lanier Flight Center Saturday celebrated the "life and legacy" of Kelly Chandler, a flight instructor for the company, who was fatally injured in a plane crash last fall, as his wife formally announced a scholarship in his honor.
According to a posting on the Lanier Flight Center Website, several of Chandler's family members participated, and, "along with friends of Lanier Flight Center, made this event our best ever."
The EAA (Experimental Aircraft Association) Chapter 611 performed a Missing Man Formation flyover, and fellow community businesses, Singleton Marine Group, Gainesville Motorsports, and Select Helicopters were also represented. FAA AME Atlanta Acute Care and the Riverside Military Academy Color Guard also participated.
Chandler's wife, Jackie, announced the launch of the Kelly Chandler Wings Scholarship, which will benefit flight students.
Donations to the scholarship fund will be accepted through August 31, which is also the deadline for submitting applications for consideration by the scholarship committee. Checks should be made payable to the Kelly Chandler Wings Scholarship and mailed to:
