Employer Business Summit to be held in Winder May 6

By Staff

ATLANTA – The Georgia Department of Labor (GDOL) and the Elberton Broad River Area Employer Committee will co-sponsor an Employer Business Summit and Networking event Wednesday, May 6, in Winder. The summit is the first of several that will be held throughout the state this year.

The summit, which is entitled Employers In The Know, will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Lanier Technical College’s Winder campus.

The annual summits are designed to help business owners and managers better understand and conquer compliance challenges in the workplace. State Labor Commissioner Mark Butler and other experts will discuss issues about federal policies and legislation that will help ensure that businesses are compliant and profitable in the upcoming years.

Butler will discuss current GDOL initiatives and programs designed to encourage job growth and economic development throughout Georgia. The GDOL provides labor market data necessary for economic developers and businesses to make sound decisions about starting or expanding businesses. The GDOL helps match employers with qualified job seekers, as well as helping job seekers be successful in securing jobs and developing their careers.

Nancy Castor Sprattlin, an attorney with McFadden, White, Sprattlin and Davis, an Atlanta law firm, will focus on Practical Tips on How to Avoid DOL Investigations and Costly Wage and Hour Litigation, as well as current “hot labor law” topics.

Joel Gilbert, with the Georgia Department of Revenue in Atlanta, will discuss steps that businesses may take to ensure compliance with that department.

Susie Haggard, a representative of the Georgia Department of Economic Development, will discuss the relationship between her agency and the GDOL and how it leads to business expansion, job growth and a stronger economy for Georgia.

The deadline to pre-register for the summit is Wednesday, April 29. If pre-registered, the cost to attend is $35 per person. If more than one person from an organization attends, the cost is $30 each. The cost at the door is $40 per person. Registration includes lunch.
