GAINESVILLE - The Georgia State Patrol said Thursday morning that a deadly crash on Poplar Springs Road in south Hall County occurred when a dump truck blew a tire and veered into the path of a small SUV, killing the driver of the smaller vehicle.

Sgt. George Harper with the Georgia State Patrol said the fatal crash happened on Poplar Springs Road at Circassian Place at the entrance of Black Walnut Grove Subdivision around 2 p.m. Wednesday.

According to a GSP report, the dump truck was traveling westbound on Poplar Springs Road when the left front tire blew and the truck veered into the eastbound lane of the roadway. At the time, Syble B. Cooper, 69, of Flowery Branch was traveling in the eastbound lane in a 2012 Honda CRV. The dump truck hit the Honda and both vehicles exited the south shoulder of the roadway and struck a green E-Z-Go golf cart before coming to final rest off the south shoulder of the roadway.  Cooper was killed in the crash.

Investigating troopers said Lawrence Vance Swikard, 49, of Gainesville was driving the dump truck. He was injured and transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center.

No charges have been filed.
