GAINESVILLE - The long time Executive Director of Good News Clinics in Gainesville has announced that she will retire this summer.
Cheryl Christian's retirement will be effective in August, according to GNC board president Dr. Richard Bennett, also a volunteer dentist for GNC..
Christian was hired as GNC's Executive Director in 2004.
"Under Cheryl's leadership, GNC has grown to be the largest free clinic in Georgia and makes a significant impact on the health and wellness of our community," said Bennett in an email statement.
In 2005, GNC moved into its present Pine Street location and in 2013 completed a major expansion and renovation. With an annual operating budget of $1.2 million, all services are supported through tax-deductible donations from individuals, businesses, civic organizations, churches and foundations; 86% of all donations are used to fund services for people who have no other resources for medical and dental care.
"The clinic serves as a role model for other free clinics in Georgia and around the country and has been recognized for excellence by organizations such as the Healthcare Georgia Foundation," said Bennett.
"On behalf of our board, I express heartfelt appreciation to Cheryl for her commitment and devotion to Good News Clinics. She is an exemplary leader and we wish her the best in her retirement."
Bennett said a search committee has been appointed from the board of directors to recruit an executive director to succeed Christian. Chaired by Board Secretary Jerry Chandler, the committee will recruit a new leader to work with Cheryl for an interim period to help insure uninterrupted services.
